HONOLULU (KHON2) — An unverified phone app is “falsely representing itself as a HOLO Card service” to collect private HOLO card information — and may use customers’ balances illegally — reported the Department of Transportation Services.
“Unfortunately, this unauthorized app is misleading users and potentially exposing them to scams,” said Roger Morton, director of DTS.
Currently, there is not an official HOLO Card mobile app available on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, confirmed the City and County of Honolulu in a press release.
“We want to remind the public that the only legitimate site for managing HOLO accounts is www.holocard.net,” Morton said. “DTS has reported the fraudulent app to Google and is working to have it removed as quickly as possible.”
The department said customers should avoid third-party applications that request HOLO Card credentials.
Customers can check balances, reload funds, register cards and manage accounts at the official HOLO Card website.
