Halloween at Kalihi Kai Elementary

KALIHI (KHON2) – After a month of anticipation, Halloween is finally here. But before thousands of excited trick-or-treaters could start gathering their candy, they first had a day of school.

But at Kalihi Kai Elementary the Halloween fun started in the classroom. Students had the chance to wear their costumes, walk around in a costume parade, and even do some activities in the class.

“Kalihi Kai is known as an arts integration school,” said Marc Kawahara, Kalihi Kai Elementary Principal on why promoting holiday spirit in school is important. “So we really really love and promote creativity and embrace risk taking and just having a lot of fun in schools so that students really enjoy being here and learning.”

Kawahara says that his staff is encouraged to dress up, and to encourage their students to dress up.

Different grade level teachers also did theme costumes, including Lilo and Stich and Peanuts.

Teachers also made sure to decorate their costumes, and to plan fun Halloween activities for their students as well.

“They don’t know yet, but they gotta finish their math first, and then they get to watch a Halloween movie and pass out goodie bags,” said Skye Kusao, 3rd grade teacher.

Popular student costumes included superhero costumes, Minecraft, and KPop Demon Hunters.
