HONOLULU (KHON2) — Three police officers were honored on Oct. 29 during the annual Chief’s Awards Ceremony with Blue Heart Medals — the first presentation of this award — recognizing those who suffer bodily injury or death in service to the community.
“The Blue Heart Medal honors officers who give something of themselves while protecting their communities,” said Interim Chief of Police Rade Vanic. “This award ensures that their sacrifice is never forgotten.”

The Honolulu Police Department said the medals are a symbol of “gratitude, respect and remembrance” acknowledging an officer’s commitment to protecting others — at the risk of their own life — in the line of duty, and the sacrifices their families make.
