Kapalua brushfire 100% contained: MFD

MAUI, Hawaii (KHON2) — A brushfire near the Honoapiilani Highway above the Kapalua Airport in Maui has been 100% contained, Maui Fire Department officials said.

The fire was first reported at approximately 12:35 p.m. on Nov. 3, with a MEMA Alert warning residents of the fire.

No evacuations were needed during the fire, but King Kamehameha III Elementary was closed on Nov. 4 out of an abundance of caution.

The fire was 100% contained shortly before 7 a.m. on Nov. 4, MFD said.

MFD firefighters and officials from the Hawaiʻi Department of Land and Natural Resources will continue to fight the blaze until its full extinguishment.
