UH’s Harris, Alejado, Barfield earn Mountain West weekly honors

The Mountain West took notice of one of Hawai‘i’s most complete performances in recent history.

After a commanding 38-6 victory over conference-leading San Diego State on Saturday, the Rainbow Warriors earned three Mountain West Player of the Week honors on Monday, as receiver Jackson Harris, quarterback Micah Alejado and kick returner Cam Barfield were recognized for standout performances.

Barfield was named the conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week after igniting the second half with an 86-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, Hawai‘i’s first special teams score of the season and its first kick return touchdown since 2020. It also marked the first special teams touchdown surrendered by the Aztecs this year. Barfield added 69 rushing yards, finishing with 163 all-purpose yards.

Alejado, selected as Offensive Player of the Week, completed 22 of 34 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns, all to Harris. He delivered scoring strikes of 9, 34 and 35 yards and threw at least three touchdown passes for the fifth straight game, becoming the first Hawai‘i quarterback to accomplish that feat since 2006. The ‘Bows have scored 30 or more points in each of those five games.

Harris earned Freshman Player of the Week after hauling in seven catches for 130 yards and three scores against an SDSU defense that entered ranked No. 2 in the FBS in scoring defense and No. 6 in total defense. He averaged 18.6 yards per catch and snapped the Aztecs’ Mountain West-record 25-game streak without allowing a 100-yard receiver, a run that dated back to October 2023. Harris has now posted at least 100 receiving yards in five straight games, the longest active streak in the FBS.

Hawai‘i (7-3, 4-2 Mountain West) enters its bye week in third place in the conference standings.

The Rainbow Warriors return to action Nov. 21 with a nationally televised road matchup against UNLV in Las Vegas on a Friday night.
