HONOLULU (KHON2) — Six dirt bikers were stranded in the mountains above Waiau after one of their dirt bikes experienced mechanical problems on Tuesday.
The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received their emergency call at 3:49 p.m.
At 4:05 p.m., the first unit arrived on scene, followed by the second unit that secured a nearby landing area for air operations.
According to HFD, the dirt bikers were unable to return safely due to steep terrain. Rescue personnel were present to assess the situation and later confirmed that none of the individuals involved sustained injuries.
The HFD advises hikers to evaluate their fitness and hiking skills, in addition to reviewing an area or a trail.
