The 115th Manoa Cup Open Division Finals was held on Saturday at the Oahu Country Club. Two University of Hawaii golfers competed for the trophy, Josh Hayashida and Anson Cabello.
The Final day of the tournament was a match consisted of 36-holes and match play.
Cabello and Hayashida went back and forth for most of the day, but Cabello took a 4 up lead on the 23rd hole. Hayashida brought his Rainbow Warrior teammates lead down to 3 heading into the final 9 holes.
But Cabello once again pushed his lead back to 4 holes after thh 32nd hole. With 4 holes to play and 4 down, the 114th Manoa Cup Winner, Hayashida, had to make no mistakes if he wanted a chance to repeat as winner.
“The hardest part is the putt to end somebody, to close it out,” said Hayashida.
The Defending champion did just that, winning the final 4 holes to tie the match and force a playoff hole.
“I knew that just give myself an opportunity and just breathe, find the best shots that I can and see what happens,” said Hayashida.
In the 38th hole, Hayashida was able to capitalize off of his drive and take home the win after making birdie.
Hayashida and Cabello play 38-holes, which is tied for the longest final round of the Manoa Cup.
