HONOLULU (KHON2) — Official Earth Day on this past Monday, April 22. But you don’t need to have a designated day to things that will take care of our planet.
Gay4Good is a non-profit volunteer organization that offers back up help for other non-profits that need volunteers; and on Saturday, April 27, they have a new opportunity you can sign up for.
The organization works to provide much needed volunteer support in such a way that it allows the supported non-profit to focus on their events while G4G organizes its legion of volunteers.
In Honolulu, G4G is pretty new. The chapter here is an affiliate of the larger non-profit that began in California.
On Saturday, G4G will be taking its cache of volunteers to help clean up the beach to celebrate the end of Earth Week.
You can join Surfrider Foundation and Hana Koa for a day of cleaning, talking story and connecting with the coast as they help Honolulu beautify the Magic Island area.
“We will be working with the Surfrider Foundation, Oahu Chapter on a cleanup of the Magic Island area in Honolulu,” said Bob Brunner who is one of the local organizers for Oahu’s chapter of Gay4Good. “The details of the event which Gay4Good Oahu is participating in are located at this link where you can sign up as well.”
The fun clean up event is taking place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. Everyone is meeting up at Magic Island area near Ala Moana off of Ala Moana Blvd on Ala Moana Park Drive
“This should be a fun opportunity,” said Brunner. “Gloves and other supplies will be provided, and this event even has an optional post event pau hana for volunteers as well. Bring your refillable water bottle and sunscreen.”
The Surfrider Oahu chapter also is hosting a Pau Hana event for volunteers afterward at Hana Koa Brewery.
“Surfrider events often attract a large number of volunteers, with a recent event having close to 100 people,” exclaimed Brunner. “It will be a great opportunity for our Gay4Good volunteers to work alongside others for the Kahakai!”

“Come join us this coming Saturday,” said Brunner.
