HONOLULU (KHON2) — A man described by prosecutors as a “persistent offender” has now been indicted for murder.
According to the prosecutor’s office, 39-year-old Kalei Carrion — AKA Kalei Thomas — has four prior felony convictions, adding a murder from last September to that list.
Carrion, along with 42-year-old Angeline Torres, were described by prosecutors as the couple in connection to the Kahuku murder on Sept. 8.
The indictment declares that Carrion and Thomas did “intentionally or knowingly cause the death” of 57-year-old Joseph Mattson who was found along Marconi Rd. in which they were charged for Murder in the Second Degree.
If convicted, Carrion may be sentenced to the mandatory minimum prison sentence without the possibility of parole.
