HONOLULU (KHON2) — A motor vehicle collision occured on West Wakea Avenue at the intersection with Onehee Avenue in Kahului at 11:17 a.m. on Saturday.
According to MPD, a silver 2024 Lexus SUV made a left turn from the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center onto West Wakea Avenue when it crashed into a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a 71-year-old Kahului woman was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center with critical life-threatening injuries. She later succumbed to her injuries and died
The operator of the Lexus, a 69-year-old Wailuku female cooperated with the authorities.
Speed does not appear to be a factor of the crash.
This is Maui County’s ninth traffic fatality of 2024, compared to seven at the same time in 2023, MPD says.
