71st Healthy Baby Contest is around the corner

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Vice President, Miss Chinatown Hawaii Queen Sarah Liu and Chairwoman, Alena Kangas Auyoung, from the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees shared the details on how you can apply.

Alena explained the background of the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees, “The organization is a 70-year-old civic, leadership development, and community service organization for young people ages 18 to 40. The Jaycees (short for members of the “Junior Chamber of Commerce”) is one of the six local chapters of the Junior Chamber International (lCl), with over 5,000 chapters worldwide, notable Jaycees include Bill Gates, Howard Hughs, Larry Bird, and Presidents Clinton & JFK.”

The Healthy Baby Contest is one of the signature projects of the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees. The contest promotes the health and well-being of local keiki by providing scholarships for early childhood education. Local keiki ages 1-3 years old can enter this free contest. Participants will receive preliminary goodie bags, and the twenty-five finalists will receive another goodie bag in the final round.

Judging for the competition is based on three criteria- health, happiness, and personality. Applications opened June 1st and will continue until August 4th. Preliminary videos will be due August 11th. Finalists will compete in person on September 7th at Ala Moana Center Stage.
