Windward showers increasing this weekend

HONOLULU (KHON2) — High pressure located north of the state will keep trade winds in place over the next few days, ensuring generally sunny weather through Friday. Expect light showers primarily over windward and mountain regions, while leeward areas remain mostly dry.

Late Friday, a weak low from the east will approach, bringing an uptick in showers, especially Friday night through Saturday for the eastern half of the state.

Showers will increase over the western half of the state late Saturday into Sunday morning, mainly affecting windward areas. Leeward regions may experience increased cloud cover with occasional passing showers. By Sunday afternoon, conditions will begin to dry out as stronger trade winds return.

Breezy to strong trade winds are expected from Monday onward through the first half of next week, coinciding with a moisture plume (tropical disturbance) on Tuesday bringing moderate showers to windward and mountainous areas. Some scattered showers may reach leeward areas, but drier conditions should return by late Wednesday as the moisture moves away.
