Maui fire claims 25 acres, 80% contained

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A fire broke out on Kahekili Hwy near Makaala Drive at about 2:17 a.m. which has claimed 25 acres.

The fire is being labeled as a brush fire.

Crews including units, tankers and Air operatives were deployed to fight the fire.

Kahekili Highway was closed for a period of time.


Historic Falls of Clyde may be removed from Honolulu Harbor

Residents in the area were alerted by MEMA to voluntarily evacuate, especially if they were impacted by smoke.

American Red Cross set up a temporary site for evacuees at Keopuolani Park.

No injuries have been reported.

The fire is 80% contained as of Thursday afternoon and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
