CLEAR, the secure identity company, launched new lanes at HNL to streamline the airport’s security screening experience. It first came to Maui’s Kahului Airport (OGG) back in April and has now made its way to Oahu.

“There were about 19,000 CLEAR members already before we even launched,” said Neldon Mamuad, CLEAR General Manager for HNL and OGG. “That means that a lot of people were using their CLEAR membership to come home [but] they couldn’t use it at their home airport to go to the mainland.”

The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) said CLEAR would help mitigate airport traffic.

“Depending on time of day, you can clearly see that having a clear membership would help to get you through the line a little quicker,” stated Curt Otaguro, HDOT Deputy Director.

CLEAR operations at both airports are anticipated to created approximately 100 jobs and generate about $6 million, according to airport officials.

“CLEAR’s mission is to bring frictionless experiences, not just to travel, but in other places like the stadiums and other places,” said Mamuad.

Enrollment centers will be open at HNL’s Terminal One for those wanting to become a member. The cost of a membership is $199 per year, according to Mamuad. Those with Hawaiian Miles can sign up for CLEAR at discounted rates.

“It’s something that we look forward to expanding and at all of our airports and customers are already enrolling,” stated Otaguro.
