Makaha fire sends smoke billowing into valley

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Honolulu Fire Department are at the scene of a large brush fire in Makaha valley.

The call was initiated just after 1 p.m. in area near Kili Drive. HPD confirmed in an alert that the fire is near the old Makaha West Golf Course.

The mauka-bound lanes of Huipu Drive and Noholio have been closed while multiple HFD engines respond.

Though no flames can be seen in photos from the scene, smoke is shown being blown back into the valley.

At this time there is no word on whether homes or other structures are threatened.
