HONOLULU (KHON2) — L&L Hawaiian Barbecue is celebrating the fourth annual National SPAM® Musubi Day on Thursday, Aug. 8.
Elisia Flores, CEO of L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, shared, “We’re delighted to host National SPAM® Musubi Day for the fourth consecutive year by offering our guests the chance to enjoy SPAM® Musubi for free through our mobile app.”
This day not only celebrates a delicious snack but also honors the history of SPAM® in Hawaiʻi.
L&L recognizes this special day coincides with the one-year anniversary of the Lāhainā wildfires.
So, to support the community, L&L will match donations to the Maui Strong Fund up to $10,000 from Aug. 1-8. You can donate through the L&L website or mobile app.

The origin of SPAM® musubi
SPAM® Musubi has a fascinating history. Japanese immigrants introduced musubi, a rice snack, to Hawaiʻi in the 19th century.
During World War II, SPAM® was brought to Hawaiʻi to feed U.S. soldiers. Locals started eating it, too, especially because fresh meat was hard to come by.
The first SPAM® Musubi was created on Kauaʻi in 1983.
L&L Hawaiian Barbecue brought Hawaiian-style cuisine, including SPAM® Musubi, to the United States mainland in 1999. Since then, it’s become incredibly popular.
L&L now has 230 locations across the U.S. and Japan.
