Sunday’s events to close week of commemorations in Maui

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Community events commemorating the 2023 Lahaina wildfires will take place in Maui on Sunday.

These events will wrap up a week of commemorations in Lahaina.

At 10 a.m., in the Lahaina Civic Center, “A Day of Hope and Prayer” will bring together faith leaders from churches and temples. A global moment of silence is scheduled for noon.


Wildfire’s Impact on Lahaina’s Infrastructure: Rebuilding Efforts Underway

Later that day, at 5 p.m., “Upcountry Aloha” will be held at Oskie Rice Arena, Makawao. This event aims to celebrate the community’s spirit, with the arena previously providing refuge for farm and ranch animals during the wildfires.
