HONOLULU (KHON2) — National, international, and interisland travelers may face delays flying into Honolulu.
On Tuesday, the Hawaii Department of Transportation announced that the Runway 4R-22L at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport will be closed for runway improvements.
Officials said crews will “perform runway shoulder paving and draining work to maintain airfield compliance with current Federal Aviation Administration standards. In order to do so, the runway will be closed starting from 4 p.m. on Wednesday through June 1.
HDOT warns interisland travelers who are flying during peak hours from mid-morning to early afternoon that their flights may be delayed. According to a news release, priority will be given to transpacific flight arrivals.
“HDOT appreciates the community’s patience and understanding while the needed work is conducted to continue safe operations at HNL,” said HDOT in a news release.
During the runway improvement project, reports said Runways 8L-26R, 8R-26L, and 4L-22R will remain in service for arriving and departing flights.
