HONOLULU (KHON2) — Honolulu police chief Joe Logan received a positive annual review from the police commission Wednesday for his annual job review.
The commission praised him for meeting expectations in key areas such as training, communication, community relations, management, and budget matters. They also noted that he is surpassing expectations in leadership.
Doug Chin, of the Honolulu Police Commission, said, “Chief Logan is trying to change the culture of the department in a positive way. He leads by example with solid values and positivity, while also handling the reality of each situation.”
However, there are areas where the commission believes improvements are needed.
They pointed out the need for faster communication, referencing the recent police-involved shooting in Waianae as a case where information could have been released more promptly.
Additionally, they suggested enhancing opportunities for professional development and advancement within the department, although they acknowledged Logan’s “amazing” success in recruiting entry-level staff.
KHON2 has reached out to the police union for their comments and to find out how much input their members had in the review process.
