Hone to pass near or south of Big Island this weekend

HONOLULU (KHON2) — As the National Weather Service predicted, Tropical Storm Hone formed in the central Pacific Thursday morning.

The storm is located about 885 miles east southeast of Hilo and 1,090 miles east southeast of Honolulu with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.

The NWS said, “the center of Hone is expected to pass near or south of the Big Island this weekend.”

Total possible rainfall amounts are estimated to be four to eight inches along Big Islandʻs windward areas, with two to four inches possible over smaller islandsʻ windward areas from Saturday through Monday.
