HONOLULU (KHON2) — New details were released about the bus shooting in which a 16-year-old male was injured in Kalihi.
Court records state that surveillance video showed a blue moped travel through a convenience store parking lot, heading for the bus at 3:34 p.m. on Aug. 9.
Once next to the bus, suspect 1, who has since been arrested and identified as 19-year-old Johnathan Ten, hopped off the moped and fired when the rear passenger door opened, seriously injuring the victim.
Ten then got back on the moped, which was operated by a second suspect and they drove west on North School Street.
One projectile and one cartridge case were recovered at the scene as well as video footage.
“Officers were able to locate and recover an extensive amount of video surveillance footage which tracked the suspects’ path of travel prior to and after the incident.”
The victim later told detectives that he had seen both suspects at a restaurant he and his friends ate at several minutes before the shooting.
He said the suspects “tried to call to him but he just ignored them and walked onto the bus.”
That was the only interaction the victim said he had with the two suspects.
On Aug. 19, an officer was able to positively identify Ten while reviewing the surveillance video.
Ten was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in the second degree and firearms charges.
Bail was set at $1 million. Ten is set for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 28.
