HONOLULU(KHON2) — You are loved. It’s a message Chad Starr has dedicated his life to sharing after his 12-year-old daughter Sienna died by suicide in 2019.
The tragedy spurred him to take action, walking for youth suicide awareness.
Starr will kick off his third walk around the perimeter of Oahu Friday, May 3rd at 8a.m., Sienna’s 17th birthday.
“We’ll be meeting at the Honolulu Zoo. And we’re going to have, I believe there’s going to be quite a few people there. So I’m super excited about that. And I’m going to sing Happy Birthday to Siena and just, you know, take a moment before I start the walk to just celebrate her,” Starr said then paused for a brief moment.
“I’m thankful that I get to do this in her honor,” he said holding back tears. “And I know that I know that she’s proud of me.”
The 132 mile walk will take roughly a week to complete. Starr welcomes anyone to join him for any portion of the walk they’d like. He is raising money for Fightstory, a mental health nonprofit organization created by MMA fighter Angela Lee, whose sister younger sister Victoria died by suicide in 2022.
