HONOLULU (KHON2) — OUTRIGGER Resorts & Hotels has renewed its important partnership with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Office of National Marine Sanctuaries in its continuing commitment to promote and support ocean conservation.
This renewed collaboration was announced on Sept. 3 and highlights OUTRIGGER’s dedication to protecting marine environments and promoting sustainability.
The partnership focuses on enhancing guest experiences through educational tools and programs about marine conservation. OUTRIGGER plans to use NOAA’s resources to help guests learn more about the ocean and its ecosystems, blending their commitment to hospitality with environmental stewardship.
“At OUTRIGGER, we believe hospitality and environmental care go hand in hand,” said Monica Salter, VP of Global Communications & Social Responsibility at OUTRIGGER Hospitality Group. She emphasized that the partnership helps weave the spirit of kuleana, or responsibility, into every guest experience.
As part of the partnership, NOAA took part in the 8th annual OUTRIGGER Zone Day at the Waikīkī Aquarium, celebrating World Ocean Month.
This event showcased NOAA’s life-size inflatable whale, Kamakai, which was a highlight of OUTRIGGER Kā‘anapali’s July 4 celebration.
Kim Hum, Superintendent of NOAA’s Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, noted that this agreement allows NOAA to reach a larger audience and make a bigger impact on marine conservation.
She praised OUTRIGGER’s commitment to sustainability and its ability to engage the public in important conservation efforts.
“This agreement with OUTRIGGER enables us to reach a wider audience and make a meaningful impact on marine conservation and education,” said Hum. “For example, our life size inflatable whale, Kamakai, was a big hit at OUTRIGGER Kā‘anapali’s July 4 celebration. Their commitment to sustainability and expansive reach in key coastal locations provide an ideal platform to engage the public in conservation efforts – in Hawai‘i, Asia Pacific and beyond.”
The partnership also aligns with OUTRIGGER’s global OUTRIGGER Zone conservation platform, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting oceanic ecosystems.
