Trade wind speeds decreasing slightly Thursday

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A cold front several hundred miles north of the Hawaiian Islands has weakened high pressure, leading to lighter trade winds. The atmosphere is currently dry and stable, limiting clouds and showers.

The weather patterns won’t change much before the weekend. Expect light to moderate trade winds and a few light showers, mostly in windward areas. High pressure is likely to build back to our northeast, which might strengthen the pressure gradient slightly over the weekend. However, a weakening front will move south toward the islands after the weekend, which will reduce the trade winds again starting Monday. Despite this, the weather is expected to stay mostly dry even as the trade winds lessen next week.
