“This day is very important to me.  I grew up about an hour north of New York City. So, this hits home for sure.  I brought out my soldiers to honor this day by doing Koko Head.  It’s about 1,055 steps. So do that twice, that represents the Towers.  We suffer a little bit for those who suffered much more and lost a lot more since that day.  Twenty years of war. So, we’re just doing everything we can to honor those we lost,” First Lt. Kristen Maxwell told KHON2.

Kristen also lost her Uncle who was among the first firefighters to respond to the 9/11 attacks.

“I was 2 years old, didn’t get to meet him.  He was my uncle.  My mom’s side of the family are all firefighters and basically all my family is military.  Larry Stack, Battalion Chief of firefighting in New York.  He’s awesome and it’s tough not getting to know your uncle but it’s great that we can honor them & those we lost that day,” said First Lt Kristen Maxwell.
