The doors at Macy’s Pearlridge hadn’t opened to the public yet, but that didn’t stop these students and parents from going in early for the VIP treatment.

“Mahalo to Macy’s Hawaii who has donated $3500 worth of gift cards to give out helping out the specials needs people here in the island,” said Michael Wong, the manager of the Laulima Giving Program.

The students chosen by Keiki O Ka Aina and the Laulima Giving Program were given $200 each to help them get dressed to the nines.

“This is so awesome,” Wong continued. “Peter’s Prom is coming up it’s a special prom middle of September for those who are special needs.”

And for these kids, getting ready might be as much fun as the dance itself. Julian Chun, one of the gift card recipients showed off his new clothes.

“I have one nice jacket, cute patterns, little blue silk, and a silk tie,” he said.

Parents and supporters said the donation is more than just money, it’s an opportunity for these kids to feel important.

“So exited just such a privilege and I’m honored to be able to just come and be in the store when nobody else is here, have the attention of the only stylist to help make JT into looking so handsome,” shared parent Ann Sullivan.

“I am excited for my prom coming up,” said student JT. “I’m so happy everybody is gonna be there.”

“It’s so fun in the dressing rooms all the girls are trying on their dresses,” said parent Barbara Delucca. “And so hopefully Maile has the only blue dress like this.”
