HONOLULU (KHON2) — A Mililani Middle School shooting threat sent students, parents and staff into a frenzy Thursday.
A 12-year-old student has been arrested for making an online threat to shoot up the school.
The individual, identified and taken into custody, faces a charge of terroristic threatening in the first degree.
The arrest follows an investigation into the threatening message, which was circulating social media.
The post prompted immediate concern from school officials and law enforcement.
Mililani principal Shannon Tamashiro released a statement to parents and guardians of the students saying they were working with the suspect’s family.
They added in the statement that, according to police, reposting a threat online is as good as making the threat itself.
All classes are said to continue on normal schedules.
