HONOLULU (KHON2) — The 50-meter pool at Manoa Valley District Park is temporarily closed as repairs are underway.
The pool had to be shut down after an intensive cleaning process revealed damaged plaster, which began to chip and create sharp edges.
The closure, which started on September 3, was initially for a thorough chlorination to tackle an algae problem. As park staff scrubbed away the algae, they discovered that the plaster was coming off, leading to safety concerns.
The Department of Parks and Recreation’s Maintenance Support Services (MSS) Division is currently evaluating the damage, but there’s no set date for when the pool will reopen.
The City and County of Honolulu will keep the community updated on the progress.
In the meantime, swimmers can visit the pool at nearby Palolo Valley District Park.
For the latest updates on when the Manoa pool will be back in service, check the Department of Parks and Recreation’s website and social media pages.
