The incident in question occurred in October 2022 when officers discovered Canilao’s wife beaten to death.

Court documents reveal that Canilao was charged with the death of his 76-year-old wife and found with blood on his chest, legs, and socks when officers arrived at the scene in October 2022.

The doctors’ assessment concluded that Canilao poses a moderate to high risk to the community and has ordered his commitment to the state hospital for treatment.

Canilao was initially held on a $1 million bail, and his case has been under judicial review since then.

As a result of the doctors’ findings, the court has decided against proceeding with a trial.
