One dead in pedestrian versus car crash in Maili

MAILI, Hawaii (KHON2) — Oahu suffered its 31st traffic fatality on Saturday morning after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a car in the Maili area.

The incident happened around 8:45 a.m. in the area of Kaukama Road and Kulauku Street.


EMS responds to two car versus e-bike crashes on Oahu

Reports said a 68-year-old female driver was stopped alongside Kaukama Road. When she attempted to re-enter the westbound traffic lanes, she struck an 88-year-old male pedestrian who attempted to cross the street outside a marked crosswalk.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and reported the pedestrian to have sustained head injuries. He was then transported to an area hospital in serious condition.

The female driver remained at the scene uninjured.

Just after 2:35 p.m., the Medical Examiner alerted HPD’s Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that the male pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The investigation remains ongoing.
