HONOLULU (KHON2) — Get ready for Hawaii’s premiere cinematic event recognizing new and emerging talent in film across the Asia-Pacific region. It’s the 44th Hawaii International Film Festival!
WakeUp2Day’s Chris Latronic went live from the new HIFF offices with everything we need to know with HIFF Executive Director, Beckie Stocchetti and the crew from HIFF feature “Moloka’i Bound” including writer and director, Alika Tengan with castmates Holden Mandrial-Santos and Kawika Kahiapo.
HIFF audiences reflect the diverse multi-cultural face of Hawai’i. HIFF helps to enrich, enlighten and broaden support for Asian and Pacific films by HIFF members, film festival fans and new audiences alike.
Each year in preparation for the event, HIFF programmers view about 2,000 films and choose an average of 150 narrative features, documentaries and film shorts. Among them are world premieres, North American premieres, U.S. premieres, virtual reality works, animation and interactive XR projects.
The programs include spotlighting social and cultural issues, first features by new directors, emerging Asian-Pacific talent and work by American immigrant filmmakers.
Conducting panels, workshops, and special award presentation receptions with top Asian, Pacific and North American filmmakers participating.
HIFF’s Education programs reach more than 7,000 students across Hawai’i annually through four different programs available to K-12 students, through year-round programs such as the Guest Filmmaker Program, Youth Education Screenings, Student Showcase and the Future Filmmakers Contest.
To participate in the Hawaii International Film Festival, customers buy a pass, pick a film and then watch the movie at a theatre near you.
