KAHULUI, Hawaii (KHON2) — Maui first responders are investigating a hazmat incident on Hanakai Street in Kahului.
According to Maui police, the call came in around 6:32 p.m. when it was reported that gas was expelled out of a propane tank at a nearby business.
The Maui Emergency Management Agency released an alert, issuing an immediate evacuation of the area and warning the public to stay away for their safety.
As a result of the leak, Hanakai Street was closed from Hana Highway to Alamaha Street. The road was then reopened at approximately 7:30 p.m. and evacuations were lifted.
