WAILUKU, Hawaii (KHON2) — Maui Fire Department firefighters spent nearly three hours battling a structure fire in Wailuku.
The 911 call came in just before 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25 when a single-story, single-family structure on Pikale Place was fully involved in smoke and flames.
Upon arrival, firefighters “extended hose lines to attack the fire and protect neighboring structures.”
The fire was deemed under control by 7:10 p.m. and was fully extinguished just after 9:30 p.m.
Maui Fire Department said five people were displaced and are currently being helped by the American Red Cross.
One resident was transported to the hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.
The fire caused $95,000 in damage to the structure and its contents.
An investigation is underway to determine the fire’s cause and origin.
