HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Girl Scouts of Hawaii’s Higher Awards Ceremony recognized 11 Hawaii Girl Scouts for their achievements in “creating a positive change in the community.”
Each Senior or Ambassador Girl Scout earned the 2024 Girl Scout Gold Award, which is “the highest recognition members can achieve.”
To earn this award, the member must design and execute a project that helps their community, creates change and is sustainable.
Officials said only six percent of Girl Scouts across the nation are eligible for the prestigious award.
“Through these community service initiatives, the girls sharpen their skills in critical thinking, relationship building, writing and research,” explained GSH CEO Dr. Kanoe Naone. “They also gain confidence and motivation in knowing that their efforts will make a lasting impact on those they serve.”
This year, Girl Scouts focused their projects on the following topics: conservation, food insecurity, STEM, education, health and youth development.
