13 additional bus routes restored on Oahu, Hawaii island

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Nearly 300 students on Oahu and Hawaii island will have a way to school starting on Monday.

On Thursday, the Hawaii State Department of Education announced it restored 13 of its previously suspended bus routes for students located in Central Oahu and East Hawaii island.


Commercial driving school trying to help “close the gap” on bus driver shortage

Ground Transport Inc., Roberts Hawaii and Polynesian Adventures will service riders from eight different schools.

Officials said parents and guardians will be notified of the restored routes and necessary route modifications.

Bus routes in the following areas will be restored:

Aiea-Moanalua-Radford Complex Area: 5 routes

Aiea Intermediate – HR01A, HR05A

Aliamanu Middle – HR11A, HR11B, HR24A

Leilehua-Mililani-Waialua Complex Area: 2 routes

Wahiawa Middle – CR14A

Leilehua High – CR14B

Hilo-Waiākea Complex Area: 2 routes

Hilo Intermediate – TR05A, TR06A

Hilo High – TR05A, TR06A

Ka‘ū-Keaʻau-Pāhoa Complex Area: 4 routes

Keaʻau High – SR33A, SR33B

Pāhoa High & Intermediate – SR11A, SR13A

The DOE shared Monday’s restoration will leave the remaining 56 bus routes suspended from the initial 147 shortage.

So far, a total of 91 bus routes have been restored.
