15-year-old arrested on suspicion of threatening Hilo school

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Police announced that they were alerted to a concerning social media post about a potential threat to a school in Hilo.

Hawaii County Police were contacted by parents who also saw the posts.

Though there were no direct threats reported and police did not specify what schools were threatened, the social media post mentioned a notorious gang potentially planning to go to a school in Hilo on Thursday.


Mother of Georgia shooting suspect called school to warn of emergency, family says

HPD met with school administrators and showed a presence during school drop off Thursday morning.

Through investigation, a 15-year-old high school student was identified as being responsible for the posts.

He was arrested at 7:50 a.m. when he arrived at school.

“Police take threats of violence extremely seriously, especially those directed towards students and schools,” HPD said in a news release.
