2 critical, 1 dead in separate Oahu crashes

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Two critical vehicle collisions occurred within hours of each other. Police reported both drivers were speeding and did not wear a seatbelt.

1 dead, 1 critical in Farrington Highway crash

Early the morning of Aug. 2, a car fatally collided into the center median of Farrington Highway in the Kapolei area, throwing the driver and passenger into the road.

Emergency Medical Services reported the driver, 19, dead upon arrival.

The passenger, 18, was in critical condition and transported to a nearby hospital by EMS.

The Honolulu Police Department reported the driver lost control of his car while speeding eastbound on Farrington Highway.

After hitting the median, the car rolled over multiple times and the driver and passenger were ejected. The car then hit a light pole and stopped.

The driver and passenger were not wearing seatbelts, reported HPD.

This is the 47th traffic fatality of 2025 on Oahu.

1 critical in Tantalus Drive crash

A car collided into a tree on Tantalus Drive in the Makiki area around 10 p.m. on Aug. 1.

The driver, 59, lost control while speeding northbound on Tantalus Drive, reported HPD.

Officials said he veered into left shoulder and hit a tree.

EMS transported the driver in critical condition to a nearby hospital.
