2 new disturbances in Eastern Pacific show chance of development

HONOLULU (KHON2) — KHON2’s Weather Source continues to track Tropical Storm Keli and Hurricane Iona, with the addition of two new developments.

Both Tropical Storm Keli and Hurricane Iona are in the Central Pacific Basin.

According to the National Weather Service, Hurricane Iona is now a Category 3 hurricane and remains a major hurricane south of the Hawaiian Islands.

The hurricane has seen an increase in speed, moving westward near 14 MPH with maximum sustained winds nearing 135 MPH.

Experts said no coastal watches or warnings are in effect as of right now.

The NWS added that Tropical Storm Keli saw little change in strength as it continues moving westward near 15 MPH.

Officials said there are no hazards affecting land, and no coastal watches or warnings have been put in place.

Additionally, KHON2’s Weather Source is monitoring two new developments that have a chance to form into tropical cyclones within next week.
