30,000 books headed to Micronesia after book sale on Oahu

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The popular “Friends of the Library of Hawaii” book sale ended today.

All the books that were not sold today are making their way to Micronesia to help with literacy.

Once the sale ended, about 100 volunteers, including the Farrigton High School football team, helped pack all the books up, which will end up in libraries all over Micronesia, helping support reading and education.

“The librarians in Micronesia have really expressed their gratitude. We send them to different islands every year, and in Micronesia, they don’t have a budget to buy books for their libraries. A lot of what goes into their libraries is coming from this sale.”

Nainoa Mau, Friends of the Library of Hawaii director
