HONOLULU (KHON2) — A young girl was able to escape an attempted sex assault at a Kahala beach on Saturday while the suspect was detained by witnesses.
Honolulu police officers responded to the incident, at Waialae Beach Park, just before 10 a.m.
Police records state that the girl, 10, had showered in the womenʻs bathroom and was wearing a towel when the suspect crawled under the locked partition where she was.
The girl confronted the suspect, asking what he was doing, but the man held her hand to detain her while he stroked the girlʻs hair and tried to kiss her.
She was able to escape.
As the suspect left the bathroom, witnesses followed and detained the man until police arrived, at which time the girl was able to positively identify the man.
The man, who is 23-years-old according to police records, was placed under arrest for Attempted Sex Assault in the Third Degree as well as outstanding warrants.
He has since been charged with Kidnapping and two contempt warrants. He is being held on $30,000 bail.
