HONOLULU (KHON2) — Everybody hands out candy on Halloween — but what if you want to be the cool, different house that hands out some different goodies? Or don’t want to accidentally trigger some food allergies or hand out super sugary snacks?
There are plenty of non-candy items that trick-or-treaters are sure to enjoy, and they’re not toothbrushes or apples.
Plus, some of them are even cheaper than a bag of candy, whose prices seem to have gone up in recent years.
Pokémon Cards
Pokémon cards depicting the fun pocket monsters characters, which have become a global sensation since their 1996 video game debut, are sure to be a treat for any trick-or-treater.
The Pokémon brand creates a series of card called “Trick or Trade,” which is a mini mystery pack of spooky familiar faces, such as Pikachu or Eevee.
Even for those new to Pokémon or longtime fans, getting a booster pack and seeing the cute, spooky or tough characters inside is sure to be a blast.
A set of the spooky cards can be bought on Amazon for less than $15 — a bit on the pricier side for the amount you get, but when paired with other non-candy items it’s sure to be a hit.
Fidget Toys
Toys made specifically to fidget with have blown up in past several years, and kids go crazy for them.
The fidget toy craze doesn’t begin and end with twiddling your thumbs — many kids will make their own or trade their “fidgets” with others, creating a fun community trend.
What’s particularly nice for the adult buying the fidget toys is that they’re usually not very pricey, as they’re typically made out of plastic or silicone.
A pack of 1,000 fidget toys can be bought on Amazon for less than $24, which will be the talk of your neighborhood if you hand them out. Don’t want to commit to 1,000? A pack of 200 toys goes for less than $16.
Mochi Squishies
Another toy fad that has caught on lately is mochi squishies — a type of mini character, animal or object that is made out of a squishy silicone, perfect for squeezing and playtime.
Each squishy comes individually wrapped, which is perfect for handing out to trick-or-treaters. A pack of 30 Halloween-themed squishies goes for less than $10 on Amazon, with a more generic assortment of animals on sale for less than $8.
Mini Coloring Books
All kids love to color, and even as they age there’s still that creative desire inside of them. Mini coloring books with favorite characters such as Spider-Man, SpongeBob and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are sure to bring a smile to children.
A 24-pack of mini coloring books containing various popular characters can be bought on Amazon for less than $20. Plus, it’s a great enriching, screen-free activity.
Crayons are not included.
Rubber Duckies
Rubber duckies are a popular children’s item, and is for more than just bathtime.
The timeless toy comes in a variety of designs, with some ducks looking like pirates, doctors, other animals and more.
A pack of 30 duckies can be purchased on Amazon for less than $16. Kids who come across a new duck friend can begin to collect them or trade designs with each other.
Kazoos
What kid doesn’t like making noise?
Kazoos, a small instrument popular with kids, are a perfect treat to hand out on Halloween. They also come in a wide array of colors, so no matter what the aspiring child musician enjoys, there’s an option for them.
If you would like to hand out some Kazoos (and annoy some parents in the meantime) you can buy a pack of 64 on Amazon for less than $24.
