75-foot vessel ran aground at Kewalo Basin, none injured

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A 75-foot vessel operating as a ferry for the Atlantis submarine ran aground outside of Kewalo Basin Harbor on Aug. 9.

Honolulu station’s Coast Guard and Ocean Safety Department responded after receiving the report at 8:15 a.m.

The responding crew launched in a 45-foot boat and was unable to reach the Discovery due to water depth and sea state, USCG reported.

Ocean Safety used two skis to make contact with the boat and confirmed two uninjured people on board, Honolulu Fire Department said.

The Discovery’s passengers declined transfer off the vessel and planned to stay on board until high tide, USCG said.

No flooding or hull damage was found when the Discovery’s captain assessed the boat.
