HONOLULU (KHON2) — Don’t miss this unforgettable night to honor and celebrate the beloved reggae icon, George “Fiji” Veikoso.
The free tribute concert on Sept. 13 at the Waikīkī Shell and Kapiʻolani Park will feature over 100 island reggae artists performing Fiji’s iconic songs.
Starting tomorrow, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m. HST, free tickets for the concert inside the Waikīkī Shell will be available on this website. Doors open at 4:00 p.m., show at 5:30 p.m. for reservations only.
Don’t worry if you can’t snag yourself a seat inside the Shell. The concert will be broadcast on giant screens in Kapiʻolani Park for everyone to enjoy, so you won’t miss a minute of the music magic.
The concert will be hosted by a variety of guests, including Living808 host Mikey Monis.
“I was so shocked they thought of me. I’m not going to lie… to be onstage, honoring Fiji, it’s mind-blowing,” Mikey Monis said. “We wanted this to be a tribute to Fiji, and everybody to come together as one ʻohana to celebrate all of his accomplishments and bask in the moment of who he is.”
Some of the artists who will be performing are J Boog, Common Kings, Maoli, The Green, Sammy Johnson, Henry Kapono, Kapena, Ekolu and many more. You can even expect surprise guests throughout the night.
“Fiji gave us more than just music – he was the voice that raised all of the Pacific. He gave us healing, identity, and pride,” said Grammy-nominated group Common Kings. “This show is our way of saying mahalo and a hui hou to someone whose spirit and soul will echo for eternity.”
The concert is expected to have a huge turnout, so plan accordingly.
“I do want to say maybe you should ride share or carpool because it is going to be a packed night,” Monis said. “If you’re proud to be from Hawaiʻi or any Polynesian Island, or if you are proud of the work Fiji’s done for you, whether it be personally or professionally, or how he’s motivated you, then definitely come out with your friends.”
