HONOLULU (KHON2) – It’s an exciting announcement for Amazon customers on Oahu.
After being in Hawaii for just one year, Amazon has launched next-day delivery for some orders shipped from the mainland.
In the announcement, Amazon gave a rundown of the local impact it has made after just one year, highlighting its growth to cover the whole state with three Amazon Air flights arriving daily and millions of packages being delivered to local customers.
They said that Amazon Air Cargo has also helped move Maui Gold pineapples from the state to the mainland in as little as 12 hours.
“This cuts shipping time nearly in half, reduces costs, and preserves freshness. The partnership has already moved thousands of pineapples and continues on a weekly basis, helping a Hawai‘i-grown product reach more homes across the U.S.,” Amazon said.
The company added that they now offer a starting wage for workers at their DH12 site at about $23.50 an hour, with pay and benefits adding up to more than $30 an hour.
Additionally, Amazon said it wants to give back to the community as well. Drivers help deliver food from partners, Hawaii Foodbank and Nalo Farms, so local families can get fresh produce.
