An ill hiker was rescued at Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail

HAWAI’I KAI, O’ahu (KHON2) — On Sun., Sept. 7, just after 10 a.m., the Honolulu Fire Department responded to a distressed hiker at the Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail. 

The incident occurred when a male in his 30s became ill by the tidepools and couldn’t make it back up to the trail on his own. 

The first unit arrived at 10:22 a.m., where 7 units staffed with 19 personnel took on the trail on foot.

At 10:41 a.m., the unit arrived at the hike on foot and conducted medical assessments while providing basic life support.

At 11:22 a.m., the hiker was safely airlifted by HFD and transferred to EMS.

There were no reported injuries from HFD personnel.
