Arrest made in Kalihi bus shooting; 19-year-old in custody

HONOLULU (KHON2) — An arrest has been made in the shooting of a 16-year-old who was on a bus in Kalihi when he was shot.

HPD said a 19-year-old male was located and arrested around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday by SED and CRU units.

According to HPD, two males approached the back door of a bus on a moped around 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 9. Suspect 1, as identified by HPD, got off the moped and shot the victim. He then got back on the moped where Suspect 2 was waiting and drove away from the scene.

Evidence and surveillance video were recovered at the scene and witnesses were interviewed, leading to the eventual identification of Suspect 1.

Suspect 1 was arrested on suspicion of Attempted murder in the Second Degree and firearms violations. Charges will be sought with the prosecutorʻs office, according to HPD.

The victim was hospitalized but has since been released.
