KAHULUI, Hawaii (KHON2) — Award-winning classical musicians known as the Aoi Trio will be making their Maui debut in Castle Theater on Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. with tickets going on sale online on Jan. 14.
The trio was the first Japanese group to win the piano trio category at the Munich International Music Competition. They are known for their classic repertoire, including Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Dvořák and more, but are also regarded for performing rare pieces by Japanese composers.
Aoi Trio was founded in 2016 Kosuke Akimoto, a pianist, Kyoko Ogawa, a violinist, and Yu Ito, a cellist, who are alumni of Tokyo University of the Arta and Chamber Music Academy of Suntory Hall.
The group’s name originates from the first letters of each member’s last name, and also refers to the name of a flower in Japanese, which symbolizes aspiration.
The Maui concert is set to include works by Beethoven, Dvořák and Toshio Hosokawa.
Tickets start at $36 and can be purchased online. For more information, visit the Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s website.
