KAPA‘A, Hawaii (KHON2) — A man involved in a bicycle versus motor vehicle collision on Kūhiō Highway in Kapa‘a has died.
The incident happened just before 7 p.m. on Christmas day when a 44-year-old male bicyclist attempted to cross the intersection of Kūhiō Highway and Kawaihau Road in a marked crosswalk.
A 2008 Toyota sedan collided with the bicyclist while traveling northbound on Kūhiō Highway.
Kaua‘i Police and paramedics responded to the incident.
According to police, the bicyclist was then transported to Wilcox Medical Center in critical condition. He was later transported to Queens Medical Center.
The Toyota driver did not report any injuries.
The highway was closed in both directions for about an hour and a half while an on-scene investigation was conducted.
In a Dec. 30 update, KPD shared the 44-year-old Kapa‘a man succumbed to his injuries and died on Dec. 27.
This death marks Kaua‘i’s eighth traffic-related fatality of 2024.
