Low-pressure is situated about 775 miles west-northwest of Kauai, while a high-pressure system is centered roughly 1550 miles northeast of Honolulu. Breezy trade winds are blowing across the islands, with the strongest winds over the eastern part of the state.
High pressure will strengthen to the northeast of the state over the next couple of days, while the low pressure to the west will slowly move northward. Wind speeds will increase slightly but remain moderate to locally breezy. The low will weaken from Friday through the weekend, while the high-pressure system moves southwest, closer to the islands. This will boost the trade winds slightly, maintaining breezy conditions into early next week.
Relatively dry trade wind conditions are expected over the next few days, with showers primarily affecting windward slopes, especially at night and early morning. An upper-level low will move over the islands on Friday and linger through early next week, increasing the coverage and intensity of trade wind showers.
