Car drives over man laying on ground in fatal Kahului motor vehicle collision

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Maui’s fifth traffic fatality involved a 57-year-old man who was run over by an unknown vehicle.

Early Monday morning, Maui police officials responded to a motor vehicle collision at Lono Avenue and 165 feet southeast of Kaahumanu.

Reports said the man, who is frequent to the Kahului area, was lying on the ground when he was run over.

MPD said the driver of the vehicle failed to stop or give aid to the man but instead fled the scene.

The man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

While the victim has been identified, MPD Vehicular Homicide Unit investigators have yet to identify the vehicle and driver that fled the scene.
